At 2:00 today I jumped in the Miata and zoomed over to the neighborhood grocery store to purchase 25 cases of Popsicles. We were giving Popsicles to every kid in the school. In the meantime the Administrators were holding a program in the cafeteria, informing the student body about all the accomplishments the staff and student body have made this year. Besides the TAKS hoopla, we had many other things to pat ourselves on the back about, like the Penny War Competition for one. We raised over $12oo to give to UNICEF. You can read the details in my other blog.
I am really getting the hang of this event planning part of my job. I'm also learning I need to keep the trunk of my car empty at all times. I had to load all those cases of Popsicles in the front seat of the car. My trunk was full of Tupperware containers to return to the Cookie Grandma. Then, once back at the school, I loaded them onto a cart and took them to the back door where my helpers and I would distribute them to the kids as they came outside. I had to RUN back to my car at the front end of the school to get my camera to have pictures. I use to sprint from one end of the school to the other and not even get winded.... let's not go there. Those days are over. I can't wait to get back in shape this summer.

Shelley, our Librarian and Lourdes, my soon to be co-hort in the office handed out Popsicles as the kids came out of the building after the program.

So many memories come flooding back. The last day of school is special. You make me miss teaching.
Brilliant, congrats to you and the school on all their achievements. Last week of school was always a blast. Like cows coming out of the shed on the first day of spring!
Brian, I think you should try it again. Maybe on a different level.
NM, lol I like that... but these kids usually smell like wet goats, especially after dancing on the playground.
That's so awesome. The first pic is beautiful. Way to go, hopping in your car to go get popsicles: you rock!!
I love that picture too Duder, of course I didn't take it. Dawn "Mother" did, she's got the EYE for it. I was keeping the never ending line of Popsicles going.
I love doing this sort of thing, I didn't ride my bike to school at all this semester, because I never knew when I was going to need to go somewhere to get something.
Yesterday we still had about 7 boxes left so Rosie and I went out back just before school let out and waited for the walkers to come out. We gave everyone a Popsicle as they left, even the Mom's with the little siblings.
How did you fit 25 cases of popsicles in a Miata? Must have put the top down...
;)
No, I had the top up, the guy put them all in the floor and seat on the passenger side. thank goodness there was only one hard left turn to make. I had to lean up to see around them to the right. I'm always loading that poor little car down. I can't let go of all those years of driving a big pick-up truck.
