Boy am I thankful!

I'm thankful everyday, but on Thanksgiving Day we usually let everyone know so here goes.

  • My family - Nita came in Tuesday and we have had a wonderful visit, with lots of shopping and cooking.
  • My husband - he puts up with my craziness and buys me really good useful gifts, like laptops and weaving looms.
  • My kids - they're awesome!
  • My job - two blocks from the house and 10 weeks off a year.
  • Our home - it's just the right size, and very energy efficient.
  • Our health - we're in very good health and we eat well too.
  • Our cute kitty - she's so entertaining.
  • and last but not least... PIE!

What I did on my Thanksgiving Vacation

I know you are dying to know how I spent my week off from school. No I didn't go to any far off destination to tour an exotic land. I didn't do anything exciting or earth shattering either. Brace yourself.... here's what I did all week long.

I didn't do much of anything that first weekend other than grocery shop and knit.... I still had the second sock of the 'camo' pair to make.

Monday afternoon I made a Tiramisu. OH MY GOSH!
This is so easy, and so much better when you use Panetone (the one with chocolate bits, not fruit) instead of Lady Fingers. Michael and Di were coming for dinner so it was a good chance to get rid of any extra dessert. Remember, Jody doesn't eat anything that's NOT chocolate, and even then, he's selective of what chocolate stuff he does eat.

Dinner with Mikey and Di was great as usual. Michael and I figured out why you can't use a prepackaged box of cornbread mix to make hush puppies. We have a whole new meaning for "an explosion in your mouth." They puff up when you fry them and then turn to dust when you try to eat them.... don't inhale as you bite or you'll suffocate on cornmeal.

Tuesday morning I decided I'd tackle one of my main "TO DOs" for the week. My Sewing Room/Yarn Storage/Craft Closet/catchall thestuffyoudon'twantlayingoutwhensomeonecomesover room.

Now you know why I knit non-stop.... too much yarn, too little time.

Oh look, this is why it's called a sewing room, there's a sewing machine buried in here.

And a serger too!

Yay! Got rid off all that stuff.

Oh, and room for a UFO basket...

Now what do I do with all this stuff?
I threw some out and I reorganized and filed away the rest. There that's done until spring, when I'll probably have to do it again. But I promise not to bore you with it.

With that out of the way I was able to.... you guessed it! KNIT!

And I watched some TV and read a little. I can't continuously knit, as much as I'd like to, it tends to blow the discs out in my neck. Then I loose all the feeling in my hands and have horrible pain in my elbows and shoulders.

I made a batch of salsa, since Michael and Di brought a bunch of really nice tomatoes from their huge garden.

Then I had to figure out how to use my new phone after I took it to the phone store to have all my stuff from the old phone transferred over to the new one. If it was left up to me, I'd probably still have my Nokia phone with the stubby little antenna sticking up to use as a handle for yanking out of my purse. I liked my old phone, (not the Nokia) the last one that opened up to a little keyboard. This one opens up to a keyboard too, so I'll like it soon enough.

I knitted a little more.

My next project was this bulletin board for my office at school. I still have a little more to do on it. I need some decorative nail heads to hold the ribbons down. I want them to be really tight up against the board.

Wednesday was Jody's birthday so I made him a chocolate pie. I don't know why I didn't take a picture, it was beautiful. When you use 4 egg whites left over from the Tiramisu for the meringue it's bound to look good. But then the meringue starts to shrink and dribble.... what's up with that? I need to consult with my cooking guru.

Thursday... Turkey Day. Drag out the once a year cook book. You would think after all the turkeys I've cooked I'd remember what the internal temperature needs to be when the bird is ready. Hey if you've seen one roasted turkey, you've seen them all. And the ones without arms and legs are even uglier.

Thursday was also Jeff's 24th birthday. Same dinner as last year, how could you forget, we did it 3 times last year. The one good thing to be thankful for this year was that Jody could actually eat it! YAY for that!!! Later that evening Jeff called some of his Buds and they loaded up his essentials and he moved out. It wasn't like he was upset or not happy with the Thanksgiving/Birthday meal. He had let us know about a week ago that he was taking over the lease of a house for 3 months. Knowing him, he may be getting it rent free. But he does have room to take care of his ever growing brood of motorcycles. I think they are breeding like rabbits.

He came back in Friday morning with a huge bottle of Gatoraide and a even larger hangover. He slept for 5 hours on the box springs of his bed with a comforter wrapped around him. He had said just before he went in his old room "I'm going on a bike ride around 11..." He crawled out around 4pm and had a turkey sandwich.
I was knitting, yes it was Black Friday, but I don't do shopping so I didn't care.

And then I was scared I wasn't going to have enough yarn to finish these humongous socks. I didn't want to have to go shopping!

Thank goodness, Friday night I finished them, with about 4 yards of yarn left. Whew, that was close.

So last night we went to Dawn and Mike's. A few of the pickers showed up and I didn't bother to take pictures of them since the pictures all look the same and I know you are bored to death with this by now. I did start my final pair of sock for Christmas. They are going to go really fast because I'm knitting two at a time and the yarn is really big. The socks are going to be really big at first, but they will shrink and felt so what happens to them after they are given as a gift is up to the receiver.

Back to work tomorrow... but like Dawn said last night, "Only 3 more weeks until Christmas Break!" We can do this.

Gotta go knit! Have a good one.
