Let the Game Begin

Every year we have the annual 6th Grade vs The Teachers Kick Ball Game. The teams were well into the game when I got out on the field. The day was perfect for a Kick Ball game. A light breeze was blowing from the Northwest. The temperature was in the high 80's, sort of cool for this time of the year. The student body and their teachers gathered on the side lines of the field to cheer on their favorite (teacher) team.

It's hard to tell in this picture which team was up to kick. It looks like Dawn "Are you my Mother" Crain was on 3rd.

Pre-K teacher Laura Hernandez is up to kick... whoops, that's a foul ball.

Now the 6th graders are kicking...

Three up, three down, and now the teachers are back up to kick. They showed no mercy on these 6th graders.

4th Grade Teacher Deanna Harris was up to kick.... whoops, that's a foul, seems like the first ball is always a foul.

She got a piece of it the second pitch.

And she made it to third base.

Coach Clements going for a home run.... would you look at his form.... impeccable!

The kids didn't seem to care. They just wanted me to take a picture of them.

"Put me in the game coach, I'm ready to play"
Mr. Pitcock comes out of a meeting to take his turn to kick.

He walked onto the field, up to the plate.....

.... and kicked that ball all the way over the crowded sidelines and into the middle of the parking lot, Far left field line drive. He calmly jogged around the bases and then he proceeded to Moon Walk backwards over the home plate. I love the way those kids are just standing there looking at the ball like "there goes the ballgame."

At that point I had to return to the office. I had run out on Maria and Liz (Judi was off this week) and they get a little nervous when Lucy and Ethel are not there. The game was a total Blow Out. I think they said Daniel gave the 6th graders 5 points for some odd reason. The final score was Teachers 24, 6th Graders 11. We also won the injury competition... Laura Hernandez may have sustained a broken pinkie finger, Dawn had a pulled Quad and I think I heard someone else groaning about something. Those wimpy 6th graders didn't even get winded.... what's that all about? I think I'll suggest the teams wear like colored shirts next year so I can tell who's who... these 6th graders are big!

I think teachers can get pretty competitive. I know Deanna asked one of them while she was standing on base "how does it feel to get beat at Kick Ball by a bunch of old women?" The boy said "I'm just a kid." but he was just as tall as her... and could probably run faster too, if his pants were drooping off his butt.
