When I noticed Lyvvie's blog site Obento Baby, I became interested in how she packed lunches for her children and her husband and sometimes for herself. I had packed lunches for the kids and Jody in the past. I had used my fair share of Tupperware containers but nothing like this! This beat Tupperware to death with a greasy rubber spatula. These little boxes were awesome!
I began visiting other Bento sites, and getting lots of ideas. Before Jolea left town she packed my first Bento lunch, you may remember the white bread Onigiri. So today's post is to thank Lyvvie for making my work day lunch more interesting, and to prove to some of those people whom I've commented on their posts, YES I do use my bento boxes.

Here's my little sandwich box bag.... what ever you want to call it. It's like a lunch bag, but no handle.

Take off the lid and there's my chicken salad sandwich in all it's washed out glory. No, there's no need for a baggie or plastic wrap. (That's another reason for using bento... no baggies.) The inside of the bento sandwich box/bag is insulated. The little open grid in the box keeps the sandwich from getting soggy.

And here's what my friend Lourdes had for lunch!
My bentos rarely have any onigiri or traditional bento cutesie pootsie stuff like all those professional Mamas make, but it does it's job really well. If you are interested in what the Pros pack in their bentos, check out the sites I have listed over on the right, under the heading of MMMMM Food.
This is exactly the reason Jody doesn't read blogs.

Obviously, there is a whole world out there that I know nothing about. I'm in awe of the bento creations, yet not sure that I will try it. I hate packing lunches with a passion. When pressed to do it for field trips, etc., I do dress it up with fun napkins, notes and such. Do I get any mommy points? :)
Amazing, never heard of bentos before !
I'd never heard about them until 8 months ago. I used to get so bored with lunch, trying to think of what to pack and the school food is sometimes really bad and really high in carbs. Usually resorted to fast food. Besides saving lots of money I have actually lost weight, I only eat what I pack in the bento. I'll try to remember to show ya'll what I take tomorrow. We ordered pizza in the office today for a birthday. I now have 3 followers at school.
Oh, I love your sandwich box. It puts mine to complete and utter shame. I want your lunch!
Would you believe I only paid maybe $5 for the whole thing? www.ichibankan.com... Most of the Bento stuff is only $1.50. I just placed an order this past week for some goodies. They only charge $6 for shipping too.
Whatever happened to that little whitebread Onigiri anyway? He ever pop up again or did Jolea finally eat him?
Jody doesn't know what he is missing... of course our blog would give you the impression we are drunken sailors... which is not true! (except for last night, but that is a whole other story - oops tangent!).
Your lunch looks great!
What flavor yogurt was that? See, now I want some Yoplait. You always do this to me. I want one cherry and one piña colada Yoplait yogurts right now!
Heather, I don't know what happened to Lil Mister White Bread... he made the trip back from Seattle and I tucked him into her duffel before she left again, but I don't know where he ended up. Poor little guy... he's probably so lonely. Jody used to be the pirate, he keeps threatening that he's going to take it up again.
GIL, I'm thinking it was the Dreamcicle flavor. It was nothing compared to the cake. Did you click on the picture to make it bigger? I just noticed something weird, I mentioned is was my secret life and if you look at my School ID all it shows is my pic and 'secret'. I had no idea that was going to happen.
Jomamma those are cool, I'm totally going to look into a bento box! My orange "Do Your Part" Lunch bag is boring. LOL
S Heather check out the sites on the right they are really amazing and go to the website above to order. I need to get Jolea one and send to her. It will save her a bunch of money on lunches.
Are you a spy? Don't answer that. I won't believe you no matter what you say.
So, that pic of your deck that's your headliner - send it to me and let me play with it. I tried taking it from the post but I couldn't get it.
God
That's okay about the pic - I got it!
That's so cool!
Hey Momma, send me your email address - I have something for you. I'm at Godtakeus@gmail.com
LOL GIL, yes my badge does say Secret Agent. Nothing gets past you.
LOL Jolea who? :-)
J/K
What other Jolea is there??? The Pirate Jolea... my daughter.
I know who she is! I was trying to be funny and failed. How is she doing since we don't see her on blogger much any more.
That's what I was thinking... that and "poor child, did she hit her head?"
Jolea is preoccupied in the boyfriend department. She has no time for us in the blogging world. She'd rather do facebook. I think she should continue the blog, she may want to write a book someday.
I'm on facebook, but I don't like it. I don't find it very user friendly. I'd rather blog. I was at Starbucks this morning and bought the GoldCard, so you get 10% off on purchases, And they have the cutest coffee cups in now, and I saw yours!!! I thought of you! And said, "there's Jomamma's cup!" :) Have a great week!!!!!
I just don't like that every time someone does something on Facebook it alerts everyone. TMI people. I bet 60 out of the 80 people I work with are on there, can you imagine how many emails I would get in a day??? I tried to load a photo album... what a pain. I think I'll make a photo blog.
I know. I feel the same way Jomamma. Way too much TMI.
