We spent more time in the hospital waiting area and processing paperwork than Jody did in the 'O.R.' taking the medi-port out.
The two nurses and the Doctor, gave him a local anesthesia, chatted with him a bit and then went to work. I could hear them talking the whole time... He said the Doctor had to stand up on the table at one point to get the right angle on his shoulder! Makes you wonder what they do during a major surgery when the patient is completely out. Conga lines, gurney races....
I think I was able to knit 5 rows of the sock I was working on when one of the nurses came out to say they were "slapping a band-aid on him and he'll be out in a minute." Jody said the longest procedure was the Doctor holding his finger on the artery to let the blood clot and the hole from the medi-port seal up. Then he stitched something on the inside and sewed him up, slapped the band-aid on, and they were done. Jody did say they really shouldn't let people do that under a local.... a couple of times it hurt really bad!!! Probably when the Doctor had to brace his foot against Jody's shoulder and pry the port off with a crowbar. He didn't even get a ride in a wheelchair.
But I guess someone else was probably using the wheelchairs. What a busy place. The hospital doesn't look like a failing business, their economy looked to be booming, there are a lot of sick people out there. The lobby was like a train terminal. And the parking lot was ridiculous, we had cars stalking us as we walked out.... they followed us to our space and then got so close to us as we backed out, one coming in from the north and one from the south. We didn't look back to see who was able to squeeze in as we left, of course this angered Jody, as he doesn't like people in his 'space.' Especially his parking space.
He is mentally and spiritually better now that the medi-port is out. He's already left the house with a road-cup and a thermos of coffee. He's off (left at 5:30) on a little road-trip this morning, to talk to a guy about building a composite mandolin. I think the port being removed is the reminder that he's well and it's over. He's cured. (for some reason that made me think of bacon... his cholesterol has bottomed out with all that oatmeal he's eaten in the last 6 weeks....)
He's back to his old self... and when people ask "where were you on the day Barack Obama was being sworn in, he can say "I was lying on a operating table with a Doctor standing over me yanking a Medi-port out of my chest."

that's so great to hear that he's better! sounds like an interesting time getting it out, but it's out! that's so good, i'm happy for you guys.
Do a favor for me and I will owe you one. The favor that I want is for you to kiss Jody full on the mouth like you did when you guys started dating, then tell him it's from me. Make sure you show him a photo of me too. After he starts getting all weird, kiss him again and tell him it's from you.
I owe you one.
That's awesome :)
glad its gone.
