Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

No,,,, this is not my street. We don't have a mountain like this in Texas, I don't care what the old John Wayne movies had in them. We don't have trees like this either, ours are short and squatty here. And we don't get nice snow like this. What we do get is black ice.... there are no pictures of black ice on the internet... CUZ YOU CAN'T SEE BLACK ICE!

Black ice is what we have it this morning. So I'm sitting here waiting to find out if I need to get dressed for school. We didn't get any snow, as I was going to bed it was sleeting pretty hard. Currently freezing drizzle is moving across the Dallas Fort Worth area. Our county along with a large amount of North Texas counties are under a winter weather advisory.

Remember last week? 29 degrees was the high on Wednesday, then we gradually warmed up through the rest of the week. Sunday it was 79 with wind gusts 40 - 50 mph. Monday, yesterday our high was 32 with a wind chill of 17. It's currently 27, our high is supposed to reach 34 today... tomorrow a nice 50....

OK, Dallas ISD is going to open at the regular time. Many schools are opting for a two hour delay to the start. We rarely do that... too many buses running.

Many of you, in those snowier parts of the world ( Vancouver, Scotland and Greenland) are probably thinking "what's the big deal?" Here in Texas we do a lot of things really well... BarBQ, Rodeos, Boots, Hats, Chicken Fried Steak, and Fried Pickles.... but when it comes to driving on slick roads, we're a bunch of idiots. We are used to jumping in a pick-up truck (think about how the weight is all on one end of the vehicle... not in the middle) and flying down the freeway doing 80 mph. We don't bother slowing down just because it's sleeting or snowing.... we have got to get home even quicker!! We have to go by the grocery store on the way home too, because we could get snowed in for 3 weeks and we don't have any bread or milk!!!! So we drive really fast and we join our buddies in the bumper car races on the highways and byways. The news coverage is of nothing but wrecks on overpasses... they average 5 wrecks every 10 minutes. And people wonder why Dallas, Tarrant and Collin county has the highest insurance rates.

If we go to school many of our students won't show up or will be really late.... when parents don't drive into Dallas they don't see any sense in sending the kiddies to school. They wonder why we don't just shut down for the day.... we still have to make up the lost time and I personally don't want to do it during Spring break. Many of our staff memebers live in other out lying counties and drive in. So I'm sure we'll have many come in late.

We're open for school. I guess I better get dressed... I may have to walk up to the school to let little frozen kiddies in the building early and Judi will have a slow drive down from up north. Seems the little latch key kids come earlier than necessary on the bad weather days.

Jody will talk to the Doctor today about not sleeping well and the pain in his throat... It may be time to use the suckers, lollipops, whatever you want to call them. He doesn't want to. We did find something he can eat! Fried eggs. He has a huge bowl of oatmeal for lunch and 6 fried eggs for dinner with an Ensure milk shake ( ensure and a pint of ice cream) followed up with a huge bowl of chocolate pudding. At least his cholesterol will stay balanced out... We're halfway there... I told him last night as soon as he's back to eating we'll go back to Texas Land and Cattle Co. for steaks with Dave and Carol. I think that was the last steak he had before the Radi started.

This is doing me some good.... because I don't want to cook anything that may smell really good and make him crazy because he can't eat it, I'm eating salads. We know how he feels about green food.... he has no problem with me eating a big juicy salad while he's chowing down on eggs.

Stay warm! I hope I don't break a hip walking to school.... we're starting 2 hours late.

I had to laugh at your Vancouver comment. Vancouver is the least snowiest city in Canada! LOL!

I've been reading your blog for some time now, I came here via Lyvvie and I don't think I've commented before. I hope you managed to get to school okay!

I've seen you over there Rox... hey what do I know about Canada... down here in Texas we think anything north of Oklahoma City is snowed in from Dec to Mar.

Glad you finally commented.

Wow. And here I put on a long sleeve shirt because it's 77 degrees outside... I am such a wimp now.

I'd much rather be a wimp there than freezing here... and there it would be nice walking back and forth. I'm ready for summer.

That is some damned weird weather you're having! From 79 to 32??
It's really cold here right now (well, nothing unusual, it's more that I'm just a huge wimp) so I didn't go to run club.

I am a weather wimp... I blame it on Jody. I won't go anywhere if it's raining, or snowing... anything other that sunny and mild and I can put the top down on my car. I will never live any farther north than where I am right now, I used to say Oklahoma City, b/c we've lived there before & I knew I could take it. But now... I'm going south if I have to go anywhere... I'm going to the beach or the desert. I'm feeling the cold in the bones much more this year.

Duder, I don't see how anyone runs in the cold... I felt like my lungs were crackling yesterday as I walked to the school.
