Happy Anniversary!

27 years isn't a long time to some people. It's a drop in the hat if you are pushing 90. On the other hand to a child it could seem like an eternity. What I'm getting at is that today is our 27th Anniversary. Yes, Hubby and I have been 'blissfully' married for 27 years. In ways I look back and think it has been a long time, after all we have two grown kids, that's hard to imagine... they are adults? How does this happen in such a short time?

I can remember the actual day back in 1981... it was hot - something like 112 degrees! So hot that my Mom carried pot holders for us to open the car doors. My parents and sister accompanied us to the Justice of the Peace in Odessa. The honorable Judge Manuel Vallez officiated and his clerks sang (or tried to...) "Going to the Chapel" while holding stiff little plastic bouquets.

Afterwards we went back to Mom and Dad's house for a BarBQ and to witness the most hideous looking cake anyone has ever made. It was down-right GARISH! One of my Mom's friends was just starting cake decorating classes and had volunteered to "do" our cake. Evidently the lady had not come to the part of her classes where they learned about food color in moderation.... "Don't eat the flowers or you will have blue teeth" was an understatement. I think my parents may have had to repaint one end of their house. Bless Mom's heart, she actually paid for that cake.

We ended the evening with Hubby finishing off a bottle of Pepto Bismo (what a time to quit drinking!) as we drove off to the Holliday Day Inn in beautiful Big Spring, Texas, on our way to our new home and life in Oklahoma City. One more thing I remember was that our truck didn't have air conditioning, I remember my long hair whipping around my head as we played that game where you have to spot things in alphabetical order before the other person gets through their list of sightings.

Oh the good ole days.... Hubby likes this quote when describing a long standing marriage, "They say being married makes people live longer.... it just makes it SEEM longer."

I must say, ours has been fun, I can't think of anything I would have done differently. Do me a favor, don't ask him!

Love your blog. I had to look at it twice before I realized it wasn't an ad for Southern Living. Very nice! Hang in there with Jodi, I know he'll be in good hands. Remember to take good care of yourself.
Love ya' much
