Road Trip!

I know what you're thinking, "she just got back from a road trip."  Well this wasn't like a normal road trip, it was just a day trip.   Nita and I met half way to exchange some things.  She had some deck chairs to give to me and I had a grocery bag of her stuff that I'd forgotten to take to her a few weeks ago.

We decided to meet in Centerville (half-way) but once Nita got on the road she never made the left turn onto I-45 and ended up in Crockett (as in Davy Crockett).  So I made the left turn and met her there.

Crockett is not much of a town, kind of depressing, I think the cattle sale barn is the largest employer of the people there.  I'm sure the Green Moose Diner does a good business as well as the Dairy Queen.  We managed to find a cute little dress shop just off the square in the downtown area, where we both willingly unloaded $100 on stuff we could have lived without.  Maybe Nita needed those things, as she's going to Vegas later this month, but I probably could have gotten through the next 7 days of school without a new pair of shoes.  Oh well, I had been in the market for new sandals and these will fit the bill.

Then we were off to find a picnic area.  I love trying to decipher people's directions when they are waving their hands about trying to draw you the picture in their mind, while they have no idea what the name of the streets are, in a town where they have probably lived most of their lives and driven the streets time and time again.  But we found it!  The 'Oh Yeah! We have a big city park with lots of picnic tables, it's reeeal nice!' Picnic area.   I don't think they get out of the county much.  At first glance I thought it was a vacant lot.  There was a public pool, and fairgrounds at the far end, where a livestock show or Junior Rodeo must have been going on because there was live music and at one point they fired a cannon or the hotdog stand exploded.

We had a whole covered dance floor to ourselves.  It was better than sitting under a tree on a bird-poop covered table with chiggers crawling up our legs.  Those posh picnic areas were taken. So yes, it was REAL nice.  Not hot at all with a lovely breeze considering out in the sun it was 90+.

Nita brought the best food, as she always does.  Bowtie pasta salad from La Madeline, smoked turkey, a savory Pesto Cheesecake omg! she made it... crackers, pita chips, naan bread and Lemon Blossoms she made those too.  I brought some fruit to which we poured a lemon lime vinaigrette over.  VERY yummy lunch.

We ate and then it was time to transfer the deck chairs from her truck to mine and head home.   But not before we could witness the beginning of a Hillbilly wedding in the pavilion next to us.  Two pavilions!  This is when I should  have had my real camera and not my phone, I needed a zoom lense.  This picture doesn't show much.  The bride was in a tea length white wedding dress I think she's behind the girl in the black miniskirt and white top.  Only the bride, the flower girl and the Judge were dressed up, everyone else had on street clothes.   Ahh, life in a small town.  "Y'all come on down to the park, we're agittin' married on Saturday! But you gotta bring yore own beer!"

We said our goodbyes and headed for home with hopes of time for a nap or a cup of coffee, maybe both.  We will have to do this again but not in Crockett

Fields of sunflowers on the drive home.

Have a good week!

Can't wait until the next adventure. Maybe we can just park on the side of the road somewhere and have our lunch and wave at people as they drive by like we know them. OMG lets do that. I have a card table that I can bring and some folding chairs.

The fruit with the lemon lime vinaigrette sounds really interesting. I'll have to find a recipe and try that. Mmmm!

LOL Nita, that would be so fun! We could yell to people "You look totally different from the last time I saw you!" Several times yesterday I almost suggested getting the chairs out of your truck and setting up two in the back of mine to sit in.

C, there is no recipe for the fruit. I just sliced assorted fruit and made the vinaigrette using Lime Olive Oil and Lemon Balsamic Vinegar from the Oil and Vinegar Store.

LOL. You guys are funny. But random happenings like that often make for funny stories and remembrances.
And you reminded me that I still need a pair of decent sandals as well. ;)

I'm a fool for sandals and flip-flops. I would die if I had to wear real shoes all year long.
