Is this what they call an epic day?

When I Google July 31, 1981 random stuff comes up.  Things like a You Tube video of some Russians from Odessa Russia, not Texas traveling to witness a solar eclipse in Siberia, it was a Friday and the #2 box office movie was Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. The number one song was "The One That You Love" by Air Supply.  I didn't know this, because I was probably listening to the country stations on the radio, or a cassette tape of Supertramp.

Things that aren't listed on that date were that it was REALLY hot in Odessa Texas, not Russia, so hot that we carried pot holders to open our car doors so that we wouldn't burn our fingers.

Also not listed was that two young people didn't care about anything else that was going on that Friday afternoon at 3PM on a day when the heat index was hitting 120+.  The only thing they cared about was that it would be the perfect day to stand before a Justice of the Peace and pledge their love to each other and witnesses.

It was a day when they would embark on journey through life with it's ups and downs, and side to sides.  With 11 different places through the years to call home at night.  With 2 wonderful children to make us proud.  With many fun times to remember and a few sad memories to be glad that we made it through them together.

July 31, 1981.  The day that the words to "Oh Darling" by Supertramp came true.

I love you Jody, Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary. Did dad cook that day and do you remember what we had? It had to be BBQ or fried fish. I might be thinking of a different time. I just remember Jody and Fred standing there eating as dad was cooking not waiting untill we got it to the table.

Dad did cook BBQ for our reception, but the Fred and Jody eating marathon was the weekend before, probably fish. That was an epic weekend too, wet, but epic. Fred wasn't there for the wedding.

For the life of me I can't recall where I was on July 31, 1981 but I know it wasn't at your wedding. I am so sorry I wasn't able to be there but I am sure I was thinking of you!
Happy Anniversary!!

Sigga, nothing like wearing a Tube Top and overalls, had to have the derby to top it off, we were at 6 Flags after all. We were SO hungover that day from the night before at Billy Bob's Texas.

Suzie, that's OK that you didn't make the wedding, we only had 3 other people there besides the Judge and his clerks. It was very private in case it didn't work out. We missed you at the reception. You could have shared that bottle of Pepto Bismo that Jody drank.

Love this! Wish I could have gone there with Suzie, but that was before she met my friend Kirby and way before I met (wait, still haven't met) you! Congrats - love the photo. Looks like Jolea was standing there with Jody :)

It's Pot Holder Hot here right now! 110 today!

Thanks Heather, I wish you and Suzie could have been there but I guess everything happens for a reason in it's own good time. Someday....

Big congratulations on 30 years! What a ride. I love the picture. I so would have hung out with you two. Tube top and overalls....my favorite! That was the uniform for Six Flags.

Oh, and I feel your pain with the high temperatures.

What a blast from the past! When my oldest found our wedding pics she said, "Who's that with Dad?"
Congrats, and best wishes for many more :)
