Weekend With The Girls

It's a tradition, I never work on my birthday.  I'm usually either leaving for or coming back from Houston.  But this year my birthday fell on a Tuesday.  Yesterday in fact.

I took some personal days Thursday and Friday of last week, and drove to Tyler Thursday afternoon to pick up my good friend Judy.  We had been planning this trip for almost a year.

I had talked to her earlier in the day and reminded her to pack light.  You can't get too much in the back of a Miata.  So when I picked her up and she said "oh I just have a carry-on bag..."  I thought, this will be interesting.  It was, her bag and my carry-on would not fit in the trunk of my car together.  Thank goodness for recycling, Judy grabbed a Marshal's shopping bag and dumped all her stuff in it,  no, it wasn't glamorous but it fit and conformed to the empty space in the trunk.  And like a unprofessional blogger... I have no pictures of this part of the adventure.  Too bad, it would have been pretty funny.

Off we zoomed toward Houston, making good time despite the wet roads as we were slipping in behind a rapidly moving thunderstorm that was headed toward Louisiana.

We got to Nita's went to eat dinner at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants and made plans for the weekend.

Friday morning as Nita is giving us the run down on that day's schedule she gets a call from Jennifer.  Jennifer is a life long family friend, we have known her all of her 47-48 years, her mom still live across the street from where we grew up.  Jennifer was flying in from Odessa around 10 that morning, or so we thought.  She called to say that Continental had CANCELED her flight!  She was in a panic, and soon, Nita was too.

Enter the devoted husband.  Loving man that he is, Jennifer's husband Junior found her a flight on South West and had her in Houston later that afternoon. Let's look at pictures.

There she is!
OMG she looks great!  I haven't seen her in about 8 years... she looks exactly the same!
And she can make that same face we have so many pictures of from back when she was 5, 7, 10 and maybe even 13 years old.   Still just as crazy as always.

Next post.... what happened Friday night!

First of all, a belated very happy birthday. I forgot that our birthdays were so close.

Your trip makes me homesick. I have lived in Tyler (loved it), Houston (loved it) and Midland (liked it). Tyler is one of my favorite places in the world. And good Mexican food, too. Sounds like a really fun weekend. Can't wait to hear more about it.
