Back to School 2010

Do you remember back when you were in the 3rd grade, maybe 4th or 5th.  It was the weekend or the day before school started.  Do you remember that anxiety?  That feeling of not remembering what you had learned the year before!  OMG!  I can't breathe.....

No, I can breathe, it's just that I'm not sure where I put everything in my office.  Remember how I had told you I had moved my office at the end of the school year?  We moved everything in such a rush so that the Summer School Staff would have somewhere to operate from that I don't know if I can remember where I put things.

Ommmm, I keep trying to settle my nerves.  I don't remember being even a smidgen anxious in the past.  Even when it was my very first day of working in the office.  I had taken the Registrar job back 10 years ago.  Moved from a teaching assistant in the Kindergarten classes, yes I learned everything I needed to know in Kindergarten  along with my predecessor, and 2 successors and 2 office assistants.   Jody and I had decided to slip off to New Braunfels for a end of the summer get away, my new job was going to start a couple of weeks early compared to my old job and the kids were still out of school for a few more weeks and could use one last summer fling too.

So we loaded up and left town thinking I had a few more days left.  Yeah, that's what I get for thinking.  The lady I was replacing had given me a schedule of the back to school dates so that I would know when to report to school.  The problem with this was that schedule was her's from the current year and not mine for the next school year!

As I'm sitting in my In-law's kitchen about to have 'big breakfast' as the Cruzans call it, I get a phone call from the School Secretary,  "what are you doing? Are you coming in today?"   Oh yeah...  I was supposed to be at work on a Monday and not on a Wednesday like the schedule I HAD said.  Gotta go!  Wait for it!  It gets better....  I reported to my new job a day late.  To top it off, I had a new Principal AND a new Assistant Principal!!!!

I had NEVER met either one of them!  That's how I roll, making a good impression and impressing people with my abilities to follow orders.  I'm also the person that is most likely to fall down a flight of stairs or end up laying in the floor laughing because I tripped over something like my own shoes, that I was wearing.

My bags are packed, and I think I'm ready. Thank goodness we aren't required to unlock the doors and turn on the phones tomorrow.

I know for certain that I start school tomorrow.  I put the date in my calendar on my phone.  I also checked with Daniel just to be on the safe side.  Now if I can only remember where I put the keys to the school.

I'm ready for Summer vacation to be over.  I've had a good summer, but I've had better summers, so here's to a great Fall....  After all this is when my new year begins, not January 1st.   I'll not celebrate like it's New Years Eve tonight, maybe I'll wait until this Friday after I've made it through this first week.

BTW -- how many of you still have your lunchbox from the 1st grade?  I do!  The one I really wish I still had was the purple Twiggy Lunchbox from the 4th grade.  That was stylish!

Are you serious???!! It's time to go back already?! It seems like you just got off for the summer. Where has the time gone?! I hope the upcoming year is a terrific one! I can't believe you have your first grade lunchbox. That's amazing! I've wished I had one of my old lunchboxes but they disappeared long ago. In fact, I don't even remember what any of them looked like...except those brown paper bags I used when I was older. :-/

Thanks Nita, I think I'm going to take your advise and start taking at least 1-2 personal days per month. It's not like I haven't collected a bunch in 13 years of not taking any.

A-O, I found a web site of a guy who collects lunchboxes. I may see if he'll appraise mine. Who knows I may not have it for long.

Look inside your lunchbox and make sure there isn't a PB&J from long ago hiding in there. EWWW!

I always felt apprehensive and anxious at the same time. I was sad that the "me" time was over yet also know that my family runs better with a bit of a schedule.

Have a great week and I hope you find your "stuff". Hugs!

It feels like only the middle of summer, and here you are going back to school. Not fair! Most of my school memories are dismal, but schools have changed (right?) and you'll probably get right into the swim of things. And that's a sweet lunchbox, I can just see you carrying it your first day.

Thanks Bliss, I think I used the lunch box from the 1st day of school in 1st grade to sometime in the 4th or 5th grade. It was great to use as a weapon against bullies.

It still feels like the middle of summer here too. 100 out there right now. It's definitely too hot to be on a playground.

I think the only thing that saved that lunch box was the fact the we used it for something rather than a lunch box for years, like a sewing kit or something. The Twiggy one was cool.... OMG... I found it! http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1967-aladdin-twiggy-lunch-box-thermos-101585261

You'll have to copy and paste the web site. I think my sister and I ripped the handles off when we hit boys over the head with it. My uncle bought them for us because I looked like a brunette Twiggy when I was in the 5th grade.
