Random stuff left over from the Vakay....

I did have a few more shots from the vacation that I wanted to show you so here they are:

One of Mikey's mules,
one of his cows with REALLY long horns,

some of the flora around the pool,

Nita serving her time in maximum security....

I'm kidding!  After we got back to Houston a really bad Thunderstorm came up and dumped a bunch of rain on them in a very short amount of time.  This is a major problem for Nita.  Her house has flooded twice in about as many years.  Once was due to a hurricane but the other is more of a problem with the idiotic way the drainage ditch in the neighborhood is made.  So Nita has to monitor the run off through the storm drain on the corner of her lot.

Ya see that?  Water... all the way across the street, covering the curbs.

Hope it doesn't get much deeper, that little car may have water inside.

That's not Ms Big Foot, that's Nita out in her Janis Joplin Rain Boots retrieving a black trash bag that had washed out of her driveway and floated down the street.

The next day it rained again and she had to go after the one that didn't get away on this afternoon, the water came up higher.

This is the improperly made drainage ditch.  When dry the ditch is 10 feet deep, maybe more.  The problem is that the culvert that runs under this road we are driving on in this picture is about 4 feet higher than the large pipe that rain water coming from the neighborhood storm drain pours into the ditch.  So the water backs up into the hood long before the ditch fills up to run on down to the Bayou and then into the Bay.  Heaven forbid all the water in the bay starts being blown inland by a hurricane.  The city won't do anything about it because only Nita's house and Kevin's house, across the street beside her, have flooded.  I think she needs to start bugging her city councilman, and she should get tons of pictures and ask her neighbors to take pictures too.  She and Kevin need to call a local TV station to get one of their people out there to get some footage.  This is just not right.  I'm surprised she will even leave town during the rainy season.

The joys of home ownership!

Last Friday I took Jeffrey to the airport so he could fly to Boston to visit Jolea for the weekend.  Well he drove, I just went along for lunch and to bring his truck back.

Whoops, I missed him.

He's rather elusive isn't he?

Oh yeah, that's much better. We'll get this one framed for the living room.

Hope he's having fun sailing and fishing and hanging out with Jolea and friends.

I visited a fellow blogger today, you'll have to check back tomorrow to see how that went.

I was just thinking that I'm going to miss your fish stories/chronicles. Happy surprise to see you had a bit more in you.

The ranch looks so beautiful. We lived in Midland for awhile and I knew a lot of the places that you talked about. Since I grew up in East Texas, I have always enjoyed the difference of West Texas and the Hill Country.

I also remember the Houston rains and drainage. Yuck!

You guys are so funny. I love how 'normal' your stories are; so funny, that kind of stupid stuff, like trash bags going awol, happens to us all. LOL.

@ Me, check out Debi Cates on my blogroll. She's in Odessa, she posts lots of local pictures from around the area. Midland is so different from the way I remember it, we went over one day to shop at a real grocery store while we were out there. It's been about 7 years since I've been in that area.

@ M, thanks girl... we got those legs from Mom, only Dad gave us the length, he was 6'2"! You were talking about me and Nita and not me and Jeff, right? Jeff has nice legs too, rather hairy.
