As always the last two weeks of school are a 'hot mess' as one of my co-workers likes to describe things.
We have the changing of command, as my Principal/Boss of the past 5 years will be leaving for St. Louis. Her husband received a huge promotion with his company in April, so this was bound to happen. It just hadn't really sunk in until the district decided on her replacement and then the replacement's replacement. Did I loose you? Our Assistant Principal will be stepping up as Principal and one of the Instructional Coaches will be our new Asst. Principal.
With this comes the re-arranging of the office. That's OK. I love moving. My mom once commented to someone when she was telling them that Jody and I were being transferred to yet another place in the early years of our marriage "I think she's from a nomadic tribe." I love moving... homes, offices, rooms.... it's exciting. And if it doesn't work you can always move it back. In the process you get to toss out a lot of junk you run across and realize 'why in the world was I keeping THAT?'
So along with all the 70 some odd people coming into my office to have me check off the things I needed to make sure they had done to prepare for EOY (end of year) shut down, I was also packing my office. I'm moving just outside my current door 5 feet into another office. An office with a WINDOW!!!! Not a window to the outside, that wouldn't work for me, with my ADD I'd be counting the red cars that went by. It's a window to the outer office. I can see the parents that come in and if they are angry or particularly upset by something I can see the girls out front and know when and if they need my help to talk the person down off their ledge. Best of all I can make faces at them! Not the parents.... the girls in the outer office. Lourdes and I will be facing each other.... this is going to be great! I'm going to get some of those sticky slimy things from those little vending machines at the grocery store check out stand and I'm going to throw them at her and make them stick to the window..... teee heee. It'll be great.
The only down side I can see to this move is that people will be able to see if I'm in my office from out in the hall. As it is now, they will come in and ask the girls if I'm in my office. That gives me time to slide out of my chair and hide under my desk!!! It's FUN! If you are in an office you should try it sometime. Not a lot maybe only a couple times a year and never to the same person twice. I did it to the Counselor a few weeks ago. I was sitting there and she walked by and said "oh I have to show you something" and went to her office to get whatever it was she was wanting to show me. So I hid and she came back and turned to Lourdes and said "where did she go?" Lourdes said "she didn't leave." When the Counselor turned around I was peeping over the edge of my desk.... only the top of my head and my big eyes were showing behind the stack of papers. She thought it was hilarious. I thought it was fun.... breaks up the tension. You just have to remember not to do it too often or then you don't look like you are serious enough. And with a new boss, I will have to prove how serious I am about my job. Hey, it's all fun and games until someone gets poked in the eye. Oh, wait that's another story.
I have only 4 1/2 glorious days left to this school year. 2 1/2 with my girls in the office and then 2 days flying solo. I'll be trying to close out some of the financial stuff for the year, clear some files into archives AND move my office. I have some comp time that I have to use or loose so with Summer School being held on our campus this year I will not have to work the last 3 days of my schedule. The Summer School Secretary will be there to answer the phones and take care of any business. I'm so excited! I just hope I can get it all done and not accumulate MORE comp time. There will be no Shenanigans this week....
Now for the pictures you have all been waiting for..... the finished Fronchard Patio!!!!
We haven't decided on what type of furniture we'll put out here yet so in the mean time we're dragging out the old camp chairs and some Home Depot buckets.... classy huh?
Then out back, off the deck Jody put this in with the left-over stone.
Looks very nice from this angle. There was lots of stone moving, with these projects and there still is stone moving going on. When you are filling mud holes with rock you have to get the stones at the right angle and height so the water will drain off, otherwise you will just have a rock lined mud hole. Yeah we could have just filled the mud hole with dirt and the water would have drained off just like it does now, but we still would have had the mud and it would have eventually washed away. The problem with these two spots is that grass won't grow under those trees. We want the trees because they shade the house and deck nicely but we don't want the bare ground under them. He did a great job. Now he's back to his hobby of picking weeds and hand watering every night and trying to keep everything alive through the 100+ temps of the Texas summer. Which reminds me, time to turn on the soaker hoses for the Hydrangeas.
Have a great week.

Congrats on the new office and the window. I envy you. :) Glad that all worked out for you.
And the patio looks fantastic. Send some sunshine up this way would you...it was beautiful yesterday and now it's raining today. What gives?
Have a great day...I'm going to go climb back into bed.
Windows are good. Even if they don't let you see outside.
Nice buckets! Double uses - tables, water holders.
Life is pointless without windows.
There's still 2 more weeks of school left here in LA.
Well, I won't bore you with the fact that I slept until 9:00 today or that I'm in shorts and barefoot. Hee-hee! I love summer. My last day was Friday.
The fronchard looks amazing. You need to make a run to Home Depot or Lowe's and start relaxing out there. Don't forget Garden Ridge. :)
Hevver, you don't want this sunshine... 100+ with a lot of humidity. It's stifling!
Heather, at one point today my new boss stepped into the 'new' office and said "wow this is a lot bigger than I thought it was." I think some people may want to rethink their plan.
Good grief Brian, when do they start school out there? 2 weeks after Labor Day?
Hey, me I all but work shorts to work today... and I go barefoot at work all the time. They are used to it.
Thanks ya'll for all the feed back on the Fronchard.... we really like it, but it's really hot out there right now. It's 91 at 7:45 PM!
The patio looks wonderful!! What a great job.
And yay - your year's almost done! Bill is counting down the days as well - he's done in a couple of weeks, as are my kids. Then it's time for all the BIG projects around here, too. And the gardens.
