Happy Weekend

I hope you are all having a great weekend, and not trying to work yourself to death in the yard like some people I know.  Jody, seems to be.

It's been about 2 years since he was really able to work in the yard.  The Spring before he was diagnosed with Hodgkins, he was so congested and had such horrible headaches, that he just couldn't keep up with it.  With my allergies I have to wait until all the mold and tree pollen have died down before I can get out there.  Then about all I do is the flowerbeds.  Mowing is out of the question.  I LOVE to mow. But I'll end up sneezing and blowing for hours after and then either have a sinus infection or asthma like symptoms.  This year has been horrible for tree pollen.  All time record high pollen counts for Texas and I think most of the country.  Most of the days my gray car is sort of a grayish-green.  All three of us (Jeff included) have had colds or sinus problems or both this year.  Jody and Jeff went to the Dr. for theirs Jeff twice, I'm going this week for a cough.  I tend to get Bronchitis if I get a cold.  My co-workers will be glad, Lourdes has me taking breathing treatments at school.

Last weekend Lourdes called and said she was coming to pick me up to go look at frames and mats for some unframed needle work of my Mom's.  These three pieces were one of the last projects that Mom had been working on before she passed.  They were unfinished cross-stitch pieces that Lourdes ended up finishing for me, 3 YEARS AGO.   Soooorrrrryyyyy, I've been busy and I don't really get into cross-stitch.

We went to Michael's and I ordered the matting.  Jolea and Grandpa had made the frames back in January when we all went to New Braunfels.  I just needed to paint them.  Which I started when I got home, but Jody took over because he's a better painter than I am.  While I was there I found some yarn for a summer project.  I can't help it, I get easily distracted when there's yarn in the building.

We then went over to the Woolie Ewe, LYS, local yarn store I was needing some advice on a pattern I was about to start.  Out in front of the store a lady had set up a display of t-shirts and canvas bags.  The items she was selling looked very familiar....  Was it just because I'd seen them in the LYS?  No... where else did I know this logo from?  Then I remembered, it's in all the knitting magazines.

Turns out, she's going out of business and was selling all kinds of stuff at rock bottom prices.  So, I got a new canvas bag, I had to!  It's me!  Yarn, needle and a martini glass.  She said people can still order on line from her web page at www.knitiot.com  Many items are on sale.  I picked up a cute T-shirt with this same logo on it for $2!!!!

Here's all the yarn I got at Michael's just waiting for school to be out.  And that's the project I'm going to be knitting.

See the book in the bag.  I'm going to make the bag on the book.  I'm a bag lady, there... I've admitted it. But that's a different post.

We had a very wild week at school, not just because we're gearing up for TAKS testing that's the state mandated testing for those of you not in Texas.  Wednesday was also Administrative Assistant's Day.  This year the Peeps came through with flying colors.  Lourdes, Maria, Liz and I were showered with gifts ALL week long.  Things like the always welcome, Starbucks gift cards.  Monday morning my office buddies and Administrators had flowers on my desk and had gotten me not just a Starbucks card but also Sushi AND Teramisu from Olive Garden!

We had a Breakfast spread one morning, and a Tres Leches Cake that looked like a piece of art.  This cake was so divine... it had a coating of white chocolate over each layer of cake to protect it from a layer of custard and the milk that was pour on.  THREE LAYERS... ingenious!  Otherwise the cake would have imploded.  I think there may be about a 1/4 of it still in the fridge in my office.... I may have to go to the school for a minute.

Lourdes gave me a T-shirt that she picked up from the Knitiot lady... it's the one that says Knit Wit.  You can see it on the web site. So cute!

Cristie took us all out to lunch at Brio Wednesday AND we each got a gift card from there!   I'll save this for when Nita comes up.  I didn't really see anything on the menu that Jody would go for.  I had the crab and shrimp cakes that were EXCELLENT!

Here's the spread I received.... I won't have to buy coffee or food for a good while.  Thanks everyone, you guys are the greatest.

This week I also discovered why my credenza could hold all this stuff.  Half the books that are supposed to be up here are back behind the credenza.  I guess that's how the janitorial staff tells you that you have too much on your desk or credenza.  They shove it off where you can't get to it.

Have a great week.  It's going to be a calm one with all the kids taking tests and the Teachers hard at it monitoring them, and the Administrators monitoring the monitors and the parent's not allowed in the building.  It's the calmest week of the year.

I find TAKS week a bit eerie. I do have the best job during that time (except for the attendance clerk that does nothing but surf the internet). Everyone is so very stressed. It is just in the air. Some of the campuses close but ours does not. I just get to turn away parents who can't understand why I can't just slip in a lunch to "precious".

You did make quite a hall this week. I did get flowers from our temporary principal. Really nice touch.

Love that you found such a deal on our yarn. Nice score!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

What a great deal on the bag and t-shirt. That martini logo is really cute! It looks like you're very appreciated at work! Happy Administrative Assistant day! :-)

Everything's better with a little Jomamma. Every post gives me the warm and fuzzies.

@ Me OL - just one more day of testing... what a stressful week. I think I may have jinxed it for us by saying it would be calm.

@A-O -- I'm proud of my haul and thanks.

@Brian -- thanks, if you only knew.
