As I'd mentioned, Jolea has been home for the past 10 or so days, recovering from a bout of the flu. She was pretty much over it before she got home. Last week she had learned that her crew members were collecting clothing in Norfolk to be delivered to Haiti when the Schooner docks there in March. Jolea being Jolea wanted to participate. She decided to have a Tshirt drive at the school where I work.
The Tshirt drive will run from tomorrow to around Feb. 14th. We'll then ship the Tshirts to the Dominican Republic where the Schooner will pick them up and deliver them to Haiti with other items they will be collecting along the way. It's just a way our kids at the school can help.
Last Thursday to kick the drive off, Jolea came up to the school for the Morning video announcements. Mr. Pitcock interviewed Jolea 'on air' so that the children would all know the details of the Tshirt drive and also be informed a little about the Schooner Amistad and it's mission. (My camera angle was not as good as the 'on air' camera angle.)
This is her finished poster explaining in both English and Spanish the details of the Tshirt drive. Hopefully it will be a huge success. Several of the teachers mentioned that their children were very excited and planning on bringing in new and gently used Tshirts to donate.
Even though Jolea isn't always comfortable with small children, she knows just what to say to get their attention. "I work on a boat that's sort of like the boats in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean." At that point all little eyes and ears are 'on deck'.
If you are local and wish to help our Tshirt drive, just call me at the school for details or drop off your New or Gently Used Tshirts, all sizes, infant to adult are accepted.

I'm happy to hear that Jolea is feeling better. What a great daughter you have. Sounds like a great project. That poster she made is really cool!
Jolea is so awesome! What a great job she is doing & so glad that she is better and on her way again! But too bad she going to back to the cold and not the warmth. Oh well!
I have bunches of great T-shirts, some brand new from my shop,(that aren't selling) that I would be willing to ship to you at your home or school. I also have a friend who owns a specialty advertising/screen print business who would donate as many as you could handle. Just need an address.

Sounds like it's almost time for a bloggers meet on AJ ;)))
A-O and Hevver, it was good that she was able to come home, but hated that she was sick. She left here this morning to head back to the boat and I felt like I didn't have time to get her some of the essentials like ponytail bands and extra socks.
Liz, let me get an address from Jolea and I'll send it to you. That way you can mail the shirts off to the same place we're sending them to. Maybe you can send them UPS (they are saying you can mail RELIEF stuff free. She should let me know in a day or two.
I already have 3 boxes of shirts and we haven't even sent notes home with the kids.

My friend also has a commercial UPS account and I do all my shipping through him cause it's MUCH cheaper. Free is good, too. :))
