What a week. We were clipping along just fine. I was going through a couple of days of stress, wondering if Jolea's boat was actually leaving Norfolk, VA on Wednesday or not. She had mentioned Sunday that they were supposed to leave on Wednesday, and that she'd talk to me sometime Tuesday. It makes me kind of anxious when I don't hear from her. She always calls us the night before she actually sets out on a journey. But Wednesday came and no word. I sent messages to a couple of her good friends (in St. Thomas) via Facebook Wednesday morning. They hadn't heard from her either. They were starting to wonder also.
Then it happened.... she emailed Wednesday afternoon. "I'll be home tomorrow.... I have swine flu." Whew.... I could breathe again. But wait........ is it to late to get the shot down at the CVS on the corner? I have only had one flu shot in my life and I ended up with the worst Bronchitis that year. I think that's why I have mild asthma now. I always pass on getting the shot and just hope that I've had it and won't get it again. But what about Jody? He's finally started to feel better, I sure didn't want him to get sick. He's supposed to have the next two weeks off before starting his new job. That would stink to be sick. We also have a trip planned for next weekend to go to New Braunfels to see Jody's parents. We haven't been to their house in almost a year.
No Jolea worries... I picked her up Thursday afternoon. She's home and she's fine. She's been on her antibiotics, and I don't think we've been exposed.
They never grow up... they start eating the minute they walk in the door. She'll be here for another week and then fly out to meet her boat in Bermuda.
She should be good as new by then. All rested, refreshed and well fed. I don't know if we can get the tangles out of her hair but we'll try.
We (the Crains and Jody and I) all went over to Garland last night. There was a benifit concert at the Plaza Theater on the square, to raise money for scholarships to Camp Bluegrass. Some of the local pickers form groups and perform. We wanted Mike and Dawn to see Lucas and Maggie on stage. When they started coming to the square last summer, Maggie had already returned to school in Oklahoma and Lucas had broken his collarbone and wasn't able to play.
From left to right.. Matt on banjo, Maggie on mandolin, Matt (behind Maggie) on bass and Lucas on guitar. Their ages range from 15 to probably 21. They are really good pickers, and Jody loves seeing kids playing Bluegrass. He's afraid this music style will die off if more kids don't take it up.
These pictures aren't that great, Dawn and I were sitting on the very back row. The guys in the hats are a group from central Texas and they were sellling their CDs. The boy on the far left is in that group and he attended the Camp on a scholarship last summer. He's an awesome banjo player and only 14. That's Lucas and Mark (taking his break) and Gary Penny up front. Gary has a band. They were all on stage for the ending. After the concert we went over to Chris' for a little jam. Jody is easing into playing with the group more and more. I guess everyone needs a little time to get comfortable with their surroundings and adjusting to doing something new. Just like climbing to the top of a 100ft mast on a sailboat. One step at a time. Just hang with it until you get comfortable.
Next weekend we'll be down in New Braunfels. Jolea is going with us, that is if Jody and I don't come down with the Swine. Have a good week.

Glad Jolea is better. Most of the cases of H1N1 that I have heard of have taken less time to get over than the regular flu. Just bad for 2-3 days and then much better. The first time I took a flu shot, I came down with pneumonia. Makes you wonder! Still I have taken it the last two years at school. Those darn kids bring me everything!
Have a good week and enjoy New Braunfels. Just heard that San Marcos has a Brighton outlet. Kiss it for me!
I think she was over the worst of it before she got here, but at least she can rest when she starts feeling run down. I'll just have to wave at the Brighton store.... I have only been to the Outlet mall once. Remember, I don't do mall shopping. I will go check out the little shops in Gruene with Jane and Jolea Friday.
