Jody has named this miniature rose bush Osama Bin Rose Bush. It's evil! For every leaf and rose there's a thorn and it knows how to use them. It's branches are long and wiry and once it latches on to you as you pass by it pulls you in so other branches are latching onto you too. It's about to be history. I know it looks nice but it's not worth the pain, it has to be trimmed every 3 weeks or it will take over the yard, just like it's girl friend the Lady Banks Rose over to the right of it who is currently trying to grow over the house to the front yard. All they needed was this rain. We've never watered these two, yet they grow better than any of the other roses in the yard.

I think I'm going to have a problem with squirrels this year. Last year it was rabbits. I don't mind rabbits, unless they are eating my hydrangeas. The squirrels are digging up the plants I've planted and replacing them with acorns in these pots. I have put every thing I can think of in the pots to deter them but they don't care. This pot had three 4" plants in it a week ago. I have no idea where they went, they are not laying dead on the ground anywhere. This green pot was full of Cilantro, now it's empty... it's nicely tilled up if I want to put something else in it.... Am I going to ha

Back to the weather.... it turned bad yesterday afternoon about 3:00. There was no need to even think about going to Garland. This picture shows the first of several rounds of very heavy thunderstorms. We also spent the evening in and out of Tornado watches and I heard the sirens going off in Plano when they, along with Rockwall to the east of them were under a Tornado warning.
The Dallas Cowboys lost their practice facility... it collapsed on them during practice . The news showed them digging their coaches and players out from under the rubble. One coach has a broken back. Why would they stay in a giant tent during a severe thunderstorm? Have they been practicing without helmets again?
It was so dark and raining so hard w

Look at all the orbs that got up on the porch with me! I was trying to take a picture of how hard the rain was hitting the sidewalk, but got mostly orbs... no it's not splashing water, I didn't get wet. I was standing inside the door about 7 feet from the rain. Someone should let the Paranormal people know Ghosts like to hang out on porches during thunderstorms.
We ended up getting close to 3 inches of rain in about 12 hours. And parts of the area are still under a severe thunderstorm watch. It's he first weekend of May, what can you expect? This happens every year. Maybe this will help with the Swine Flue drama, it should have helped keep people in and quarantined at home. Knowing the people of North Texas they were all at the mall.
Have a good week, it's looking like it may be a top down kind of week for us! Temps up in the high 80s!

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty tired of the stinking rain. I hate muggy weather and have had bad hair all week. Bah humbug!
That was pretty crazy about the Cowboys training camp. I couldn't believe that they were all just standing there watching the lights swing back and forth. Get a clue!
At least we get to go back to a school with out TAKS testing. One more month! YEA!
I'm sick of the rain, but my yard sure looks better than it did last week.
Have you heard the latest on the Cowboys center? The people who live around there don't want them to rebuild it. It's an eyesore. This wasn't the first time it's been destroyed.
Last week was surly the longest week of the year. I had to arrange for 3 meals. Which is hard because when you think you have enough food turns out you don't.
We had a dog growing up. He was awesome and my family always loved to have one, but we didn't like them on the furniture either. So, because we live in a good climate, he lived outside and had a doghouse and whenever it was too hot or too cold he was allowed to come into the kitchen (but not beyond!) and sleep there.
Totally unrelated: what a weird story about the Dallas Cowboys!
How is the Rosetta Stone?
T&M, It's hard for me to be fair in judgeing Rosetta Stone. I took Spanish in a Continuing Ed class at the local Junior College for 4 years. So I'm going into the Rosetta Stone with a lot more knowledge than a non speaker would have. I'm using it as a refresher course. I would think it would be sort of difficult for someone starting it with NO Spanish knowledge at all. If you have the opportunity to get the program FREE like I did, go for it. But if not, I think taking a class at a college is so much better. It's more disciplined and the interaction with REAL people is so valuable. Over the past 4 years I probably spent around $500 on classes, Rosetta is kind of pricey isn't she? One thing you don't get from Rosetta is the writing. That's what I excel in. My Spanish speaking friends are always impressed when I write them notes. And I was able to do this from early on. They all say I'm fluent... not just a speaker. I'd say spend the money elsewhere.
