Jeff came over Saturday and wasn't feeling well at all. Not good for someone who was planning on going to South Padre Island on Tuesday. He was feeling so bad that he ended up staying over Saturday night. He kept saying he'd gotten dehydrated at work Friday... I think he had that same virus I'd had a couple of weeks back.
Monday I reorganized my 'sewing room', woo hoo that was fun, sorry I didn't get any pictures of that but I was overcome by balls of yarn several times and barely made it out alive.
By Monday Jeff was a little better but didn't have an appetite, which isn't like him at all. He even said if his stomach didn't feel better he wouldn't be drinking at all when he got to Padre. His buddies had headed on down to the beach and he was planning on riding his motorcycle down when he got off work at noon on Tuesday. Do you know how far it is from the north end of Texas to the southern most point? 581 miles! 9 1/2 hours on a motorcycle, a dirt bike!!! Really it can take longer than 9 1/2 hours... You need to allow for 45 minutes to an hour to get through Dallas, and never ever think that you can get through Austin in less than an hour. We've been known to spend hours in the area and only move 2 miles toward our destination.

Monday night Jody looked at me and said "how would you feel about taking him halfway, to New Braunfels? You can spend the night at Mom and Dad's and he can get an early start the next morning." Hey, what else did I have to do, and New Braunfels is one of my favorite places. So Jeff and I went on a road trip.
This is Jeff about 45 minutes into our trip, we were finally on the south side of Dallas and I didn't have to have a co-pilot anymore so he's out.
Then he drove as we got into Austin while I knitted and finished a sock.

He managed to find the elusive loop road that bypasses Austin and all the traffic with his I-phone. We've been hearing about it for years but never found a sign that says "bypass the traffic, turn here..." He wasn't appreciating my Pat Green and Robert Earl Keen Jr. music so he listened to his own stuff.
We got to New Braunfels in time to meet Grandma and Grandpa at a Mexican Restaurant that was so cold I was wishing for a hot flash. Then we headed out to their house and had Christmas.
Yeah, the Cruzan's can have a holiday anytime they feel like it. That's just the way they are, party all the time. Jody got some gifts that I brought home to him (slippers, a guitar book and dead presidents) Jolea and Jeff got dead presidents, this all pales in comparison to what I got....
Enameled Cast Iron Cookware! The next morning after Jeff ate he hopped on his bike and zoomed off to the beach... another 250 or so miles. He got there around 2PM, just in time to get out on the Jet Skis and jump some waves.

After Jeff left, Jane and I got dressed and went to all my favorite stores and a few new ones. I can always find a bargain in New Braunfels or Gruene. And it helps to have one of the all time best bargain shoppers with you. Jane found a pair of capri pants for herself, $6, and then she found a pair for me too! It was a great day to make the shops in Gruene and it doesn't take us too long to visit our favorites. I headed home after lunch. I should have stayed longer but I wanted to get back and check on Jody and I still had some things to do at the house. This was my shortest visit ever. But we will be going back next month.

On my way back home I didn't find that sign in Austin that says anything about the bypass so this is what I got into... it wasn't so bad. Like Jeff kept saying the day before... "it will move." He is the mellowest person I have ever been around. I don't think I have ever seen him get bent out of shape over anything. Well maybe he did that one time when he wanted his tricycle from Jolea, and he was always rather possessive of his Legos.

And then again in Dallas the traffic was even better unless of course some idiot does something crazy like take pictures while driving. When we see this we know we're about an hour from home.

I have got to show you my favorite overpass system in the state. They call it the High Five. It's so pretty... I'm more of a out in the country nature kind of person, I like the architecture of some place like the Mesa Verde Indian Cliff Dwellings opposed to modern man made structures.

But these overpasses are a work of art. Really all of Hwy 75 is pretty going through Dallas. I guess they figure when you have to get stuck in traffic and it becomes a slow rolling parking lot you need something pretty to look at so you don't go ballistic.
I spent today working on the deck... what a mess, but it's now ready for me to spend the next three days out there knitting or blogging or what ever.

love the cookware... am so jealous!! Especially the blue.
NM I'm so glad to hear from you... are you beginning to thaw out? Happy 1st day of spring.
I'm SO excited! We're going to cook steaks in the grill pan tonight. Jane got different colors to match my Fiesta Ware dishes which are also in different colors. I love cast iron, even the old time black kind that you can cook on an open fire with.
What a nice Mommy to save his butt from sitting on that contraption all those extra hours!
Cool cookwear!
Yeah I kind of worry about them when they are on open wheeled vehicles. Riding a bike takes so much more energy than sitting (sleeping in his case) in a truck. He'll have a ride home with his buddies on the way back Sunday.
Those are some amazing looking pots.
It all looks pretty similar over there to Australia, except for the overpass systems. They do look pretty cool.
Thanks Maja, we cooked steaks in the grill pan last night, cleaned up so nicely.
We've heard many an Aussie say Texas looks just like home. And Jolea said the same thing about OZ when she was there last year. I think that's why we have so many Aussies in Texas, they're comfy here.
This has nothing to do with anything in particular but - can I come over for lunch? Will you make me biscuits? I also want some socks like Duder's.
After I eat the biscuits and put on the socks and get all warm and cozy, can I fall asleep on the couch? WIll you cover me with a blanket and kiss my forehead while I'm asleep?
That's missing in my life and I know you're a good woman. Good women do these things.
lol I'll make biscuits, but not from scratch, that's Jolea's department, mine get whopped out of a can. I'll make you some socks if you like, but they won't be finished until next winter... and there's a pecking order to that couch. Right now it seems the Crown Prince gets it anytime he wants.
I'm sorry these things are missing from your life, I'll see what I can do about the socks.
