He's been anxious to talk about his guitar buddies, and that's a good sign. It means he's feeling better and he's not worrying about treatments or selling off his guitars and mandolins. As you can see in the picture below... even though he hasn't totally lost his hair, he was in a good enough mood to put up with Jolea and I putting a wig on him Thursday night.
Jolea had this wig as part of a costume and for what ever reason was wearing it when she came into the living room, then she put it on Jody as he was sitting there on the computer. I re-adjusted it, because she had just plopped it on his head. She said I could actually put it on him, because I wasn't scared of him. We were laughing so hard, and I grabbed the camera, he suggested that he put on his glasses and I said "yes it makes you look dinguished" like I said we were laughing very hard, so now he's Mr. Ding-wished, the man of the hour.
Every one suggested that we celebrate Jody's good news by going on a trip. I've been posting this blog for the past 6 months. Have any of you noticed that the farthest Jody has ventured from the house is to Garland, Texas? It takes us 15 minutes to get to Garland. We like to say he doesn't like to leave the county. Therefore I plan trips on my own. Always have, it's not a problem. I plan the trips with him, but I know he won't be going, he helps with the budgeting. He's more than welcome to come along and I'd be delighted to have him come and I am delighted when he occasionally suggest that we go to his parent's house in New Braunfels. His idea of a great trip is when he gets to stay home. Think about it... nothing could be worse than having a traveling partner that doesn't want to be anywhere other than home... He reminds me of my Uncle Marvin (one of Dad's brothers), he would go anywhere as long as he could be home at night, so he could count his cows and make sure none had gotten out. Mom always compared Jody to Uncle Marvin when it came to travel. She'd say "Jody has to count his cows..." Jody is, and Uncle Marvin was very responsible, always taking care of business. No time for vacations or down time. Uncle Marvin was a Ranch Foreman his whole life. A true 24 hour job.
I do need to visit my Dad's youngest sister in Longview. I'll think long and hard on that today. She's a retired teacher and still sharp as a tack (she's in her 80s), so she knows when the schools are closed for holidays, I can't get away with telling her "oh I had to work." The best time to go would be tomorrow. We can make a day of it. Jolea is always up for a road trip, we could get up early and zip over (2hr drive) and zip back in the evening. Jolea and I had thought about taking the AmTrak to Longview, but the schedule is weird. The train leaves Dallas around 3 in the afternoon and the return is at 6 in the evening. Just think of the knitting I could get done.
I think Jody is wearing off on me... I keep thinking about how cozy my own bed is. And it's going to be a busy week after all, preparing for Thanksgiving again! Jolea wants to put up the Christmas tree... If she does, she's going to take it down before she leaves even if she gets a boat job and has to ship out Dec. 3rd! The dust in the attic always makes me sick... I get the worst cold after I put up the tree and then again when I put it all away. I've also got some end of the season gardening I need to do, should have done it weeks ago.
Nine days... I just don't want to sit here and it be over and done without accomplishing something. That's what Jody likes to do, not me.

Trent and I are SO glad to hear about Jody being cancer free. Speaking of road trips, we got a bug up our butt and decided to drive 18 hrs to Dallas from Florida for Turkey Day. Do you think Jody would be up for a brief visit from us while we are in town. We could go get ice cream or bring over ice cream :)
Let me know - we don't want to barge in on your plans, but we would love to see you since we are not in town nearly as much as we would like to be to visit with all of our friends.
Congrats on the great news - this blog is such a reminder to me that every person in our life is a gift, as well as each moment that we share with the people we love.
Let us know -
Sara
I am making an executive decision, yes Sarah, you guys are welcome to stop by. They don't mind. :)
p.s. Dad just said, If you come to this neck of the woods and DON'T stop by he will "Hunt your asses down", so there ya go.
Or stay home and enjoy each other's company. Play some games and make banana splits for dinner.
I actually did that for my sister's kids once. When my sister was pretty sick with her cancer and her kids were getting down, I put out all the stuff for banana splits, then told them to come downstairs for dinner and let them have at it. They about fell over and had to call all their friends and tell them what they had for dinner.
So have banana splits with Sara for dinner.
I'm thinking chocolate cake and ice cream for dinner. His birthday is Tuesday, we'll party!
